Stupid people

10.14.04 (7:55 pm)   [edit]

I was just reading the latest post on my brother's blog, and I felt compelled to expand upon the concept of idiocity.  People throughout history have demonstrated remarkable stupidity.  Sure, we have the occasional genius who will achieve great advances, but what irks me about people in general is their overwhelming need to belong to a group, surrendering their own opinions to those of the particular mass with which they affiliate themselves.

I could bring a lot of examples into play here -- everyone seems to be guilty of this in some degree.  But relevant right now, I think, is the whole bipartisan political system in place in our country.  I think it's complete garbage.  Most people trick themselves into why they're voting for a specific president, for example.  But what it boils down to for over 90% of voters is what party you belong to.  If you're a democrat, you vote for the democrat.  If you're a republican, you vote for a republican.   This is evidenced by the fact that the entire campaign of both parties is focused on that approximate 8% of voters that can be considered "swing" voters -- meaning that they actually care about the issues and will pick the candidate that they feel will best benefit the nation and world.

If people weren't so stupid, there would be no need for the term "swing voter", because, ideally, everyone would care about the issues, forcing the candidates to emphasize their specific policy plans over smear campaigning.   The whole smear thing is further proof of people's stupidy, simply because it works, but I think I've gotten my point across.

In an ideal democracy, we wouldn't have these parties.  Of course this will never happen, because the idiots of our generation (which is most people) will continue to pass thier specific loyalties down throughout subsequent generations.

Also, anyone that is cheering for the Cardinals should be put out of thier misery.  Or for the 49ers, Bucs, or even, sadly, Green Bay.

Pittsburgh, meanwhile, is 4-1.  Hell yes.
