To clarify...

Sorry bout that last post... that was fueled by a half bottle of wine and the news that the new constitution will be written under Islamic law. I was just mad. I usually try to avoid politics... it's one of those topics that is simply too polarizing, and no matter how much logic you use, it's usually impossible to change anybody's opinion/partisanship.

In other news.... well, there isn't any other news. Life is boring. I cleaned my apartment today.

A Useless Conflict.

In light of recent developments on Iraq's new constitution.. I'd like to personally apologize to the rest of the world on behalf of America.

Really, we're not all assholes - we're just stupid. We bought into the whole WMD thing. We didn't want Iraq to fall back into the Stone Age. Again - we're really, really, really sorry. We'll never do it again. I hope.

More later, when I'm level-headed and not breaking things...

More Useless Crap you don't care about.

Cool. I got my notice in the mail today (finally) that I was accepted into the next phase of police testing... the dreaded oral exam. I'll have to put on a suit (which is something I don't currently own) and stand in front of 5 high-level cops while they interrogate me. If I'm lucky, I'll pass that and I'll get the chance to be plugged into a polygraph machine!!
It's a lot of screening, a lot of pain in the ass, and a long, long time, but it makes sense. I know a whole lot of people who I wouldn't want to see in possession of a firearm, much less the ability to restrain and arrest people.

In other news, I had lower level seats to the Steelers/Eagles game on Monday, and it kicked a whole lot of ass.

Going to the Game!

Sweet. I just won lower level tickets to the Steelers/Eagles pre-season opener at Heinz Field. Now I just need to find a designated driver.

Not Fat Enough??

08.04.05 (5:36 pm)   [edit]
Here's a problem we've all been dealing with recently...

The better part of the civilized world, with America in particular, has been getting progressively fatter, as is well known by most. People have come up with numerous theories as to the cause of this "epidemic", most of which center around lack of activity and poor diet. Duh.
So why, might I ask, is there such a strong movement throughout America to eliminate responsibility on the part of the consumer, and paint the corporation as the "evil entity" that is forcing us to be fat? It sounds disturbingly similar to the "Big Tobacco" suits of recent years, during which companies such as Philip Morris lost hundreds of millions of dollars to the many people who had died from using their product.
My problem? Nobody forced these people to smoke. If you smoke, you make a conscious descision to do so... perhaps under "peer pressure", but nonetheless, whether or not you smoke is entirely up to you. I smoked for 4 years, I should know.
The same holds true for the fast food industry and any other company that sells artery-clogging, high-fat foods that are causing 67% of Americans to exceed the healthy weight standard, and nearly 30% to meet the criteria for "obese".
Yes, this is an epidemic. If almost 30% of US citizens are obese, there is obviously a problem. If you are among those that think "I'm beautiful regardless of my body size".... go to hell, because you're wrong. Are you fat? Get this... you are NOT attractive. You are a disgusting blob, and you should take better care of yourself. You might think you're beautiful, but the rest of the world snubs their collective nose at your 4,000 calorie cheese-fries bar platter.
So who's to blame?
The problem lies in the fact that the question "who's to blame" even exists. People want to point their fingers at the McDonald's and Burger Kings, who, despite being pressured into offering salads and fruit dishes for health reasons, are still pledging allegiance to "one nation under chicken fries" (Chicken Fries, for those of you unaware, are basically sticks of fried, breaded, saturated fat, with a small twig of "D" Grade chicken within, sold with the intent of providing the "convenient snacking" of French Fries. Which means you can stick about 600 calories worth into your face with one hand.)
It's the big mass-market fast food chains that are forcing this garbage down our throats, and the throats of our children, that is causing people to become overweight, or even obese. How can we possibly be expected to know that eating Wendy's three times a week causes chronic cases of lardass?

Obviously, its' not difficult to point out that we, as the consumer, have the freedom to choose our own distributors, and the products that we receive from said distributors. Those of us that can't figure out that chugging milkshakes for breakfast is a bad idea deserve to be fat. In other words, NOBODY is forcing us to quaff Bic Macs in record quantities. It's your own goddamn fault, idiot.

This is where they bust out what they think is a workable knowledge of the DSM-IV, and start to claim that they have an eating disorder. Now I'll agree, right off the bat, that eating orders exist. Some folks' bodies are seriously affected by the presence of such disorders, and they need serious attention and help to stem their often brutal effects. Thing is, 67% of Americans do NOT have eating disorders. It's more like 1%. Most of you fat folks have only yourselves to blame. It might be a controversial point to some, but this is only because nobody wants to take the blame for anything that they've done wrong. It doesn't matter whether or not your kid kills 10 people at school (it's the Manson music, I swear) or if you take up 2 seats in an airplane.... if anyone points a finger at YOU, it's discrimination. God forbid you pay the consequences for your own stupid choices.

I know that it's "hip" to attack the moral actions of the major corporate forces around the globe (and yes, they are a bunch of money-sucking, abusive bastards -- how else would they become major corporations) but we have to be able to face up to our own stupid mistakes. Otherwise we'll be sticking a nice, fat fork in the middle of our own evolutionary process. If we can't even be held accountable for our own actions, what kind of standards are we supposed to actually live by?

Just a thought, and I hope you are fat and offended. It's your own damn fault, you pizza-eating piece of shit.
